Изучение Древней Индии
Преподавание индийских языков и литературы в Санкт-Петербургском университете началось в 1836 г, когда для чтения лекций по санскриту и сравнительному языкознанию был приглашен Р. Х. Ленц. (1808-1836), но систематическое изучение индийской филологии началось уже после создания Факультета Восточных Языков и открытия на нем кафедры индийской филологии (1958 г.).
